An interview with a British hairdresser living in Oslo
Meet miss Kim Middelbrook
First of all hi Kim! Who are you and what lead you to become a hairdresser?
Hello, I’m well thank you. I first became a hairdresser when I had a panic about my career, I had always dreamed of working with animals my whole life but my circumstances didn’t allow me to study within that field, so I decided on something more creative and began studying hair and beauty therapy. I soon realized I was good at it and grew a passion for hairdressing quickly.
Where do you currently work?
Toni and guy in Grünerløkka, Oslo
How would you describe your style as a hairdresser?
I’m very heavily influenced by vintage style, anything from the 1930’s – 1970’s vibes. I love the playfulness of the different eras and how they evolved over the years, many trends and techniques we use today derive from past trends.
What do you like the most about being a hairdresser?
I love the ability to transform people making them feel fantastic, stylish and on trend, changing their mood and evolving their style to fit lifestyle and fashion trends, its the greatest feeling in the worldseeing your clients so happy, especially on their wedding day.
Top 4 wedding hair recommendations from Kim
What kind of hairstyle would you recommend for a bride that wants to do it herself at home?
- Keep it simple, the more you over complicate the worse it will look, soft loose curls or a low bun can look classy and elegant.
What kind of hairstyle would you recommend for a bride that wants to have a more retro look?
- Defiantly my favorite look, the Hollywood glamor waves look amazing for a stunning retro vibe, and perfect for framing the brides beautiful face!
You do a lot of neon colors, for the bride that wants to be more alternative and have neon hair, what would you recommend ?
- Think hard about the condition of your hair, the reality of what can be achieved then choose your tones, some colors are more difficult to remove (blues and greens) so also think about how long you want to keep the colors, but in the vivid hair color world, anything is possible.
What is the best place to find inspiration for good wedding hair looks?
- Of course wedding books would be a great start, but social media apps like Pinterest and instagram are great sources for inspiration.
